All the prophets testify about him (Jesus Christ) that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”  Acts 10:43

Finding predictions of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament is one of the most remarkable pieces of evidence pointing to the supernatural origins of the Bible.  Jesus of Nazareth would not be born for thousands of years, yet his identity and mission in life are clearly written by prophets who are guided by God.

For example, in Genesis “the seed of the woman” speaks of Jesus and his virgin birth through Mary.  This “seed” (offspring) is predicted to “crush the head of the Serpent” the devil (Genesis 3:15).

Jesus is also pictured in the sacrificial ram who dies as a substitute for Isaac (Genesis 22:13).  In the second book of the Bible, Jesus is foreshadowed by “the Passover Lamb” whose blood protects believing families from the death angel (Exodus 12).

Next, in the book of Leviticus we see Jesus foretold as “the High Priest” who is anointed above all other priests.  In the fourth book of the Bible called Numbers, we see “water flowing from the rock” a rock of refreshment for God’s people in the barren wilderness (Numbers 17:6, 20:11).

Finally, completing the Torah is the book of Deuteronomy where Moses writes by divine guidance from the Holy Spirit, “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet (Jesus) like me (Moses) from among your own brothers (Jewish people).  You must listen to him (Jesus)…I will put my words in his mouth…” (Deut. 18:15,18).

Every one of these prophecies is clarified and explained in the New Testament.  They each fit together like puzzle pieces to make an exquisite and detailed portrait of Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

Jesus is still a Rock of living water for those who walk in dry places.  Pause and drink from him today.
