The Kanai’s in Africa
Michael and Monica Kanai
When Michael and Monica first met, they both wanted to be missionaries. A few years into their marriage, Michael completed the required seminary training and they accepted a two-year position in Nigeria. They sold everything they owned, said goodbye to family, packed their bags and were ready to leave.
However, two days before departure, they got a call saying, “Don’t get on that plane!” Nigeria was in the middle of political turmoil and thus rejected their visas. They waited for six months as the mission board sought to clear up the visa problem, but efforts were unsuccessful.
Now 29 years later, Michael and Monica plan to leave for Kenya on July 16th for a two-year teaching commitment (with the possibility of extending their position each school year after that). Monica will serve as a Middle School Bible teacher, and Michael will serve as a High School Bible teacher.
Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
2 Cor 3:5-6 NASB
